This is a real story from our recent experience at HomeFix Appliance Repair, and one we’re proud to share — not just because of the successful repair, but because of what it says about our approach, values, and deep technical expertise.
We usually focus on residential appliance repair throughout Katy, Houston, Fulshear, and Sugar Land. Most of our service calls are for homeowners who need washer repair, dryer repair, or help with their refrigerators or ovens. We don’t normally handle commercial laundry machines — but this time, something told us to make an exception.
It started like any other call. A hotel manager in Katy, TX, reached out asking for Maytag washer repair. Our dispatcher followed our usual intake checklist and asked: “Is it a residential or commercial washer?” The manager answered: “It’s commercial.”
At that point, our dispatcher politely explained that our company specializes in residential appliances, and that we usually do not take on industrial washer repair jobs. But just to be sure, she ran the situation by me.
I paused and told her — this one might be different. There’s a reason why.
You see, Maytag produces a line called “Commercial Technology”, which includes high-capacity residential washers and dryers that look and operate very much like commercial units. We’ve seen many homeowners, Airbnb hosts, and even small businesses use them. So there was a 50/50 chance the caller was actually describing a residential washer with commercial-grade features — something we do repair regularly.
Our dispatcher called the customer back and set an appointment for the next morning.
When I arrived on-site at the hotel in Katy, I immediately saw this wasn’t just a big washer — it was a true industrial-grade Maytag commercial washer, the kind built for heavy use in laundromats or hotels. The unit was huge, bolted to the ground, and had a direct water feed and drain system. This wasn’t going to be a quick 30-minute fix.
But I wasn’t walking away.
Diagnosing the Commercial Washer
Thanks to our team’s deep knowledge in industrial electronics, appliance diagnostics, and electrical repair, we were able to access Maytag’s commercial service mode. This diagnostic system quickly identified that the issue was with the hot water valve — it wasn’t opening during the cycle, and the washer couldn’t operate properly without it.
At that point, I asked the manager if anyone else had looked at it.
“Yes,” he said. “Two companies came out. Both said the same thing — the washer is too old, parts are unavailable, and we should just buy a new one.”
A replacement machine of this size? Easily over $20,000 — not including freight or installation.
Why We Took the Job Anyway
At HomeFix Appliance Repair, we don’t take “replace it” as the default answer. Yes, there are cases where buying new makes sense, but too often, customers are told their appliances are “not repairable” by techs who either lack the experience, access to OEM parts, or the willingness to dig deeper.
We located an original OEM Maytag water valve through our supply network (we’re authorized for the full Whirlpool/Maytag family of brands). The customer approved the estimate, and within five business days, we had the part installed and tested.
The washer was back in service — and the hotel operations were running smoothly again.
The manager couldn’t believe it. “You guys are the only ones who actually tried.”
Why Maytag Washers Are Worth Repairing
Whether you own a Maytag commercial washer or a classic Maytag residential washer, these machines are built tough. In fact, we regularly service Maytag washers that are 25–35 years old, still working reliably in Houston-area homes. They were engineered for durability and ease of service, and many of their core parts are still being manufactured today.
If properly maintained and serviced when issues arise, a Maytag washer can easily last 30+ years — and we’ve helped make that happen for dozens of homeowners in Katy, Memorial, and West Houston.
So if you’re being told by other companies that your Maytag washer isn’t worth fixing, call us first. We believe in honest diagnostics, quality repair, and keeping good machines running as long as possible.
Our Expertise: More Than Just Parts
Many appliance repair companies only focus on “parts swapping.” If something doesn’t work, they replace the module — and if that doesn’t fix it, they shrug and walk away.
We do things differently.
At HomeFix, our lead technicians have real backgrounds in electrical engineering, industrial automation, and machine diagnostics. That means we’re not guessing when we diagnose your washer. We understand how these systems work — and why they fail.
Whether it’s a Maytag commercial washer, a Whirlpool direct-drive unit, or a Samsung front-load washer, we apply the same care and technical precision to every repair.
We Handle Both Residential and Light Commercial Washers
While we’re not a full-scale commercial laundry repair company, we do take on light commercial washer repair jobs when it’s the right fit — especially if it’s a brand we know well like Maytag, Whirlpool, or Speed Queen.
So if you operate a:
-
Hotel or motel
-
Nursing home
-
Small laundromat
-
Rental property with on-site laundry
… and you need help with a washer that’s not draining, not filling, stopping mid-cycle, or showing error codes, we’re happy to help.
